When the PTO
first began we realized the school did not have a mascot
that would motivate the students. The PTO put together
a voting contest to choose a mascot and then a contest
to name the mascot.
The children of the Central School voted
from several examples of stuffed animals on loan from
Build-A-Bear Workshop. The
winner was a stuffed lion that needed a name. The PTO sponsored
a naming contest and asked students to submit entries.
The winner was voted on by parents in attendance at a general
meeting. Julia Clifford, (then a first grade student) at
the Central School submitted the winning name; C.H.E.S.T.E.R. Julia submitted an essay that explained how
she came up with
the name. The name stands for the seven qualities that
support our school.
Here is what every student should
strive to be
like: Compassion, Honesty, Enthusiasm, Self Esteem,
Teamwork, Encouragement, and Respect.
The PTO received
hundreds
of wonderful entries and the winner was announced at
our first
Family Night.
C.H.E.S.T.E.R. continues to inspire the
students at the Central School in many ways including
during lunch
period
each day.
